Mathruvedi – Women of Faith, Service & Community
Introduction
Mathruvedi is a fellowship of women volunteers from St Joseph Syro Malabar Parish Perth, united in faith and service directed by the parish vicar, Fr. Ajith Cheriyakara. Our mission is to help women discover their God‑given dignity and embrace their vital role in Christian families and parish life.
Our Spiritual Mission
Guided by Mother Mary, we strive to deepen our relationship with God, Jesus Christ, and the Church. Mathruvedi provides a prayerful space where women can grow spiritually, support one another, and live out their Catholic faith with joy and purpose.
What We Do
Spiritual gatherings — Prayer meetings, reflections, and faith‑building activities.
Community connection — A welcoming platform for women to share ideas, build friendships, and support one another.
Cultural involvement — Active participation in parish cultural events and celebrations.
Service & charity — Fundraising, outreach, and volunteer initiatives that support parish missions.

Core Spiritual Activities
- Monthly Intercessory Rosary: Held on the third Wednesday of each month with full participation from Mathruvedi members.
- First Wednesday Adoration: Led by Mathruvedi in the parish church.
- Choir Participation: The Mathruvedi Choir actively takes part in Holy Qurbana and other major parish celebrations.
Engagement and Activities
Inspired by our parish priest, we bring passion and dedication to every parish activity. We thank God for blessing us with a forum where we can pray, serve, and grow together in His love.
- “Neerchalukal” Initiative: A voluntary fundraising effort where members contribute financially toward the Parish Building Fund.
- Fundraising Stores: Mathruvedi runs a snack store (chayakkada), a piety stall, and special event store to raise funds.
- Charitable Outreach: Regular financial assistance is extended to the economically disadvantaged. Eg; Christmas Appeal, such as clothing and non-perishable items for homeless population, fund raising for treatment, or house building.
- Conduct community oriented seminars for parish members and focused awareness sessions for mothers.
- Provide First Aid support during the church events, celebrations, retreat and group gatherings.
